Hank Greenberg Honored at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, MD

The Bethesda Big Train honors barrier breaker and Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg by retiring his number 5 at the Thursday, June 23 Big Train baseball game. Greenberg’s #5 will hang on the outfield wall at Shirley Povich Field in perpetuity next to the numbers of baseball’s two other historic barrier breakers, Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente.

Before the game, Aviva Kempner, producer of the documentary The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, will give a talk about what Greenberg meant to the Jewish community and to America. Rabbi David Shneyer will entertain. During the game, Rabbi David will perform a Yiddish Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Come out and have a great time while keeping the legacy of one of America’s all-time great Jewish superstars alive.
